We started and finished Chapter 1. Nothing really new here. Set up time, length, and mass historically and current definitions.
We did talk a little about Fukushima in Japan.
Here are the screen shots:
- This valve was left open around one of the containment walls . . . oops.
- This is a computer projection by NOAA. NOT CURRENTLY HAPPENING. THis is why what is happening at Fukushima is not just a Japanese problem..
- Your generation will have to come up with novel ways of fixing the problems left by my generation.
- Aerogel on a flower
- So. . . . I will try to put on as many of these captions as I have time. Official definition of a second.
- Offical definition of a meter
- Definition of a second.
- Definition of a second.
- Atomic clocks are pretty darn accurate.
- Dimensional analysis is not uniti analysis. A dimension in Mechanics is one of three things. [L] , [T], or [M]. Units can be seconds, miles, hours, lbs, kilograms, etc.
- Dimensional Analysis is used to determine if your derivation is on the right track or your answer makes sense. If you find that your adding time and length together you know your wrong. If it ends up being mass on one side and time on the other . . .oops.
- Checking the validity of a relationship. Notice the 2π doesn’t have units because it is a coefficient. Constants HAVE units, coefficients don’t.
- I think this was one of the problems on your homework.
- This is the unit analysis ice creme problem we worked in class.
- This was a homework problem about the pyramid.
- We proposed this problem in class. Once you count $100 bills to $100,000,000,000 you can keep the money. But if you make a mistake, you get nothing. How long will it take you.
- same problem.
- How fast does hair grow in nanometers per second?
- A hair molecule being VERY quickly built. About 10 atoms per second. This is how fast proteins are synthesized on your head my friend.
- This is the aluminum vs. iron problem from the chapter outline that we didn’t get to.
- Close up of a sun spot.
- outstanding!
